Greenspan unchained

Back in 1996 Greenspan got in trouble with his inappropriate comments about "irrational exuberance." He was quickly put on a short leash and had been ever since. The poor guy was simply not permitted to really speak his mind in a system that hung on his every word. His very position demanded that he be hyper-responsible for the impact of his every utterance, if for no other reason than that his job was to serve the American people. Now, that is all changed.

Greenspan is now a free man, entitled to do business with whomever he wants and speak his mind as freely as he wants.

The upside is that we will finally hear his unvarnished opinions on any and all topics.

The downside is that he won't necessarily be careful to make sure that his every word are artfully packaged to facilitate consumption and interpretation by the media, investors, and financial markets.
